Panjab University (PU) is set to introduce student feedback system for evaluating teachers and curriculum from the upcoming session. However, only students with at least 75% attendance and ‘no re-appears’ will be eligible to give the feedback.
A new form has been drafted for the purpose and has been approved by the Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) in its executive meeting held on Tuesday. Now, the form needs to be approved by the syndicate.
In the form, students would rate a teacher on different parameters such as ability to complete syllabus in time, interaction and communication in class, ability to inspire, punctuality, preparedness for lecture, availability and accessibility, etc.
The students will also be asked to comment on a teacher’s use of modern teaching aids, handouts, reference material, PowerPoint presentations, web resources, besides whether or not the attitude towards students was friendly.
To evaluate a teacher, a student will have to tick on a 5-point rating scale ranging between ‘strongly disagree’ to ‘strongly agree’. There will be 10 questions on teacher and four on curriculum.
A student will be asked whether the syllabus is enough or too much to be adequately covered in one semester and relevance of the course in the overall structure of programme. There are questions on course overlap with other subjects. The questions on curriculum are objective in nature with four options to choose from.

Prof Rajat Sandhir, Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) president, who was part of two-member committee formed to frame the feedback form, said, “The faculty is ready for implementation of the student feedback system. It will be introduced from the upcoming session. It will be paperless and students can fill it online.”
