A paid parking contractor in Sector 35 was found allegedly flouting rules and overcharging customers, not ensuring a working CCTV cameras and not issuing tickets through punching machine.
After an employee at the parking lot was found issuing Rs 10 tickets instead of Rs 5 fixed for four-wheelers and Rs 5 instead of Rs 2 from two-wheelers, authorities imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the erring contractor.
When an HT staff visited the parking lot (Hotel South End to Hotel Metro) in Sector 35, the parking attendant asked for Rs 10. When the scribe objected, the attendant said, "You pay only Rs 5."
Municipal corporation officials later arrived at the spot and allegedly confiscated a booklet of illegal tickets in the denomination of Rs 10 from the attendant.
MC additional commissioner Lalit Siwach said that after complaints against the contractor, a corporation team went to the spot and came across several violations, besides overcharging. "We have already imposed a fine of Rs 10,000. We are now verifying for how many days had he been overcharging. If necessary, we will file a complaint with police also," he said.
Enforcement wing superintendent Kashmira Singh said, "We caught him red-handed charging extra money from the public. Moreover, the contractor was not issuing parking tickets through a punching machine. Even his CCTV cameras were not functional. We have confiscated a booklet of illegal tickets from him and even their serial numbers do not match. The attendant was also not wearing a name plate."

{{/usCountry}}When contacted, contractor Satpal Singh Bitoo admitted to the "mistake" of the parking attendant but maintained that Rs 10 were charged for parking four-wheelers for the whole day. Interestingly, the allotted tenders have no clause for charging parking fee for the entire day.
