The vigilance inquiry will be conducted to find out whether there is a nexus between municipal officials and parking contractors, as despite huge fines, the latter had continued to overcharge for parking of vehicles.

The vigilance sources said the senior officer held a long-winded discussion on the issue and was surprised why the municipal corporation (MC) had failed to act against the parking contractors who were extorting money from public. The sources added that the officer had decided to act against the errant officials after holding a fact-finding inquiry into the matter.

Confirming the development, senior superintendent of police (SSP) (vigilance) Maneesh Chaudhary said he had got directions from senior officers to conduct a vigilance probe into overcharging by parking contractors. He said they would probe whether MC officials had a hand in the menace.
