Previous studies have linked smoking during pregnancy with foetal loss – spontaneous abortion or miscarriage (loss of a foetus before 20 weeks of gestation), stillbirth (loss of a foetus after 20 or more weeks of gestation) – but there was little evidence for second-hand smoke exposure.

“This study demonstrated that pregnancy outcomes can be correlated with passive smoking.

Significantly, women who have never smoked but were exposed to smoke were at greater risk for foetal loss, says the study.
