Tenders were invited through e-bidding, and the MC has earned `82 lakh. The Phase-7 lots went for the highest amount of `26 lakh against a reserve price of `7 lakh, while Phase 3B2 went for `23 lakh against a reserve price of `5 lakh.

The 'paid' parking lots will include four each in Phases 9 and 10, three each in 3B2 and 7, and five parking lots in Phase 5.

If you don't want to pay per visit, passes would be issued at `100 a month for four-wheeler and `50 for two-wheeler. Those depositing helmets with the contractors will have to pay `1.

MC Commissioner Uma Shankar Gupta confirmed that contracts had been assigned and the system would begin from March 11.

The contractor would be installing closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at the entry and exit points, and use electronic ticketing machine to give slips.

Welcoming the move, president of Traders' Association, Phase 5, Malkeet Singh Khalsa said, "It was a long-pending demand as most markets in the city witness chaos in a free-for-all system."
