"The victims, travelling in an Innova car, had made a pit stop at a highway eatery when two members of the gang, posing policemen, began questioning them. They asked the driver for the documents of the car and then, on the pretext of questioning him, took him a few metres away," a police official said.

The occupants of the car were looted of 60 grams of gold ornaments and Rs.1.5 lakh in cash. The driver was held hostage by the other members of the gang. "Meanwhile, a member of the gang came back where the Innova car of the pilgrims was parked and asked them to sit in their car as they were to be questioned by his 'officer'," the official added.
