Pinjore: Mango Mela starts on Friday

The Pinjore Garden will play host to the 24th Mango Mela from July 4-5. The Haryana Tourism department, jointly with the state horticulture department, is organized the two-day annual event. The event celebrates Mango as the 'King of Fruits' and cultural programmes are also organised to mark the event. Punjabi singer Sarthi K will perform on July 4 from 6:30 pm onwards.

A new event this year will be yoga sessions where experts have been invited to share their knowledge.

Principal secretary, tourism, Sumita Misra, said, "The Mango Mela offers an opportunity to see and taste best-quality mangoes and enjoy cultural programmes. Handlooms and handicrafts are also on sale."

On Saturday (July 4), the receipt of entries of mangoes and mango products will start at 7am. On the same day, competitions for students like Mango Quiz and Mango Eating will start from 10am.

A stage group-dance performance by school students is also on schedule.

Sunday's event schedule

On July 5, competitions for students like Mango Story Writing & Mango Cut-Outs will begin from 10am. A fashion show for children will start at noon. School students will then go solo on stage for dances. A food court will be set up to serve mouth-watering cuisines.

3,000 mango varieties to be on display

Prominent commercial mango varieties that will compete at the event include Dasheri, Chausa, Langra, Amarpali, Bombay Green (Malda), Ratol, Malika, Ramkela (a pickle variety), etc. Over 2,500 to 3,000 mango varieties are likely to be received.
