With an aim to help females and children and also curb crime against them, the district police are all set to launch the ‘Child and Women Helpline’ at the new building of the Circuit House police ‘chowki’ at the end of this month.
It is pertinent to note that earlier also the district police had launched a new initiative called ‘Lodge your own FIR’ for the help of citizens.
The Child and Women Helpline, excusively for females and children, will have a toll number on which anybody from the district can call for police assistance. A separate police party will be deployed to take care of this Helpline and will swing into action whenever some emergency call is received.
Elaborating on the initiative, Amritsar SSP Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh, said, “This is an initiative for females and children in the society. The Helpline aims at crime against women and children and also facilitates them.”
A dedicated female police staff will be deployed in this Helpline center, which would work for 24 hours. The counseling Cell for women will also be attached to this Helpline, said the SSP.
“These days, it has been noticed that complaints of disputes related to females, eve-teasing and telephone calls have increased and keeping this in mind the district police has taken this step.”

{{/usCountry}}And to make the entire Helpline and counselling system effective, we are also attaching a couple of NGOs with this, he added. It will listen to all sorts of issues faced by females or children. The Helpline number, 1091, will be toll free and open 24 hours, he added.
Other than this, a branch of ‘Lodge your own FIR’ will also be launched at this centre to further facilitate people of this area, said SSP Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh.
