To mark the 50th death anniversary of legendary architect Le Corbusier, who planned Chandigarh, the Punjab circle of Indian Postal Department in association with Chandigarh Administration is going to issue two special postal covers on August 27-the day when Corbusier had died in 1965. The release of the special covers will commemorate the legacy of Le Corbusier with a slug-50 years after the masterand is as of now riddled with printing goof-up.

Ironically, while paying tribute to the meticulous architect, who is known as the pioneer of the modern architecture across the world, the back side of both the special covers-designed and printed under the supervision of Bhim Malhotra, associate professor of Chandigarh College of Architecture-has been printed upside down. If released as it is, the special covers will make it to the list of philately errors.

Special Day Cover printed upside down

Meanwhile, the UT departments of tourism and urban planning and Chandigarh College of Architecture are planning a huge event on August 27, where UT Advisor Vijay Dev will be the chief guest and chief postmaster general of the Punjab circle will release the special covers. The event will be followed by the release of literature on Chandigarh.

“The Delhi office has no idea about the special cover as it has been handled by the Punjab circle. But as per the rules of the Indian Postal Department, the special cover with any error cannot be released,” said a senior official of Philately Bureau of Indian Postal Department, posted at the headquarters.
