The Punjab government on Thursday approved six mega projects which entail an investment of about Rs 1,000 crore. The projects were approved by an empowered committee in a meeting chaired by chief minister Parkash Singh Badal here, an official statement said.
Badal directed the industries department to cut down the pendency of cases besides ensuring timely resolution of other issues related to the implementation of the mega projects, according to the statement.
The empowered committee approved four new industrial mega projects worth Rs 580.39 crore. It also approved a mega project in housing and agro sectors with an outlay of Rs 370 crore and Rs 42.79 crore, respectively.
These projects were likely to generate direct and indirect employment for about 3,000 persons.
The mega projects approved under the manufacturing category included units of Vallabh Tinplate at village Beopror near Shambu (Patiala) worth Rs 121.95 crore, Nirbhai Textiles at village Hedon (Ludhiana) worth Rs 127.44 crore, Satish Estates and Laghu Udyog Bharti at Phagwara (Kapurthala) worth Rs 156 crore, Oliver Engineering at village Sandhrasi (Patiala) worth Rs 175 crore.
The empowered committee approved a mega housing project to be developed by Innovative Housing and Infrastructure at villages Togan and Teera in SAS Nagar under Mullanpur Planning Area of Greater Mohali Area Development Authority over 101.18 acre at a cost of Rs 370 crore.
