Punjab BJP affairs in-charge and Rajya Sabha MP Shanta Kumar on Saturday expressed gratitude to the Akal Takht for its intervention and cancelling the Sikh conferences.
The former Himachal Pradesh chief minister also thanked Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal for defusing the crisis-like situation building in Punjab and Haryana.
Reiterating that the Centre was fully aware of the problem, Shanta Kumar hoped that a way out would soon be found.
Meanwhile, Punjab BJP chief Kamal Sharma also welcomed the move saying the directive not only defused the escalating tension but also provided reprieve to the people of both the states, who apprehended a deadlock between the two states after these conferences.
"Such controversial matters should be resolved by dialogue and not by taking tough postures," he added.
