The Punjab government is preparing a master plan using state-of-art technology for crime detection and prevention, deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said on Tuesday.

Punjab Police is using latest software and data base of National Crime Bureau (NCB) to exchange information on criminals operating in the neighbouring states, their modus operandi, pattern of crime, to chalk out joint strategy to pre-empt their strikes, he said.

State police especially police of districts falling on inter-state borders were having regular bilateral/trilateral meetings to nab these gangs, he told reporters at Jalalabad in Ferozepur district after a function.

He said that for Punjab police has constituted a special core group to crack white collared crimes like cyber crimes and online frauds to nip these crimes in the bud.

Plan has been chalked out to install close circuit cameras on National and state highways besides crowded and all strategic and sensitive points in towns and cities and ultra modern Police control rooms have been set up at range level to monitor developments and respond quickly to problems, he said.

He said that Punjab has already sought Rs 200 crore special modernisation grant from the Union Government as being the border state Punjab has to be treated differently.
