Punjab govt reconstitutes border area council

The Punjab State Border Area Advisory Council has been reconstituted with chief minister Parkash Singh Badal as chairman. The deputy chief minister, MPs, MLAs and principal secretaries of different departments have been inducted as members.

The Punjab State Border Area Advisory Council has been reconstituted with chief minister Parkash Singh Badal as chairman. The deputy chief minister, MPs, MLAs and principal secretaries of different departments have been inducted as members.

The state government has also constituted advisory councils for Kandi and Bet areas, said a spokesman.

The function of these councils would be to aid and advise the government in drawing up schemes and programmes for the development of these areas. Members include the revenue minister, finance minister, chief secretary; financial commissioner (FC), development; FC, forests and wildlife; principal secretaries for finance, industries and commerce, irrigation, planning and home affairs; secretaries for power, school education, public works department (bridges and roads), and water supply and sanitation; chairperson-cum-managing directors (CMD) of the Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL) and Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL); the inspector general of Border Security Force (BSF), Jalandhar; and deputy commissioners of Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Ferozpur, Fazilka and Tarn Taran.
