Punjab: Irrigation dept engineers found absent

Two chief engineers, two superintending engineers, 12 executive engineers along with 20 other class-1 officers were found absent in the irrigation department office in Chandigarh and SAS Nagar when irrigation secretary Kahan Singh Pannu conducted a surprise check on Tuesday.

Two chief engineers, two superintending engineers, 12 executive engineers along with 20 other class-1 officers were found absent in the irrigation department office in Chandigarh and SAS Nagar when irrigation secretary Kahan Singh Pannu conducted a surprise check on Tuesday.

As many as 126 class-3 officers and 71 class-4 officers were also found absent.

Pannu said the raid was conducted by 10 teams at 9.15 am with a view to checking the attendance of officers and employees.

Pannu directed the employees and officers to maintain punctuality in office timings failing which strict action would be taken against them. He said the competent authorities in the department had been directed to take necessary action against those found absent from their offices.

He said such surprise checks would be a routine feature and all staff of the department should report to offices on time failing which strict action would be taken against them.
