The Punjab government on Wednesday issued a fresh notification with a pruned list of dignitaries who have been authorised to use the red beacons atop official vehicles, while warning that violators' vehicles would be impounded.

This notification has been issued on the directions of the Supreme Court deciding a Special Leave Petition in this regard with a view to strictly implementing road safety measures, a spokesman said here.
The orders to impound unauthorised vehicles with the red beacon have also been issued, besides directing the authorities concerned to implement the instructions.
The new notification issued by the secretary, transport, has freshly enlisted persons eligible for the red beacon, which include the governor, chief minister, ministers, parliamentary secretaries, the chief justice and judges of Punjab and Haryana high court, MPs from Punjab (one vehicle only), assembly speaker, deputy speaker, MLAs (one vehicle each), chief secretary, financial commissioners, principal secretaries, administrative secretaries, principal secretary to the chief minister, advocate general, legal remembrancer, chairpersons of state-level boards/corporations/commissions with the rank of state minister and above, director general of police and other police officers up to the rank of the SSP, registrar of the high court, district and sessions judges, commissioners/deputy commissioners, excise and taxation commissioner and state transport commissioner, all advisers to the chief minister with the status of state minister and above, and mayors of all municipal corporations.
