The victim, Jagmal Singh, in his complaint alleged that Akali leader Sohana and other party members assaulted him and rounded him up near Mauli Baidwan village on Friday evening.

Following the complaint, the police registered a case against nine persons under sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), and 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) of the IPC.

In a dramatic turn of events, Sohana on Saturday called a press conference wherein he denied having any knowledge about the FIR. However, Sohana had called the conference to air his objection to the FIR registered against him, but just before the conference he took a U-turn and denied having called it to talk about the issue.

"I am not aware if an FIR has been registered against me. I never assaulted the driver," said Sohana, who claimed to have called the press conference to release the calendar for Kabaddi tournament and not for giving his version on the incident.

Denying assault, Sohana alleged that Jagmal was injured as he fell from the stairs in the police station, the recording of which was available in CCTV footage of the station.
