A Delhi court has sentenced a man from Punjab to more than two years of rigorous imprisonment for possessing more than 13-kilogram poppy husk in 2012.
Special judge Shail Jain convicted Punjab resident Dilbag Singh under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and imposed a fine of `5,000 on him. “The testimony of the prosecution witnesses is consistent and trustworthy,” the judge observed.
The court, while sentencing Dilbag, noted that he had been in jail for more than two years already, and so gave him a reduced sentence of only two years and two months. On August 6, 2012, man was arrested at Anand Vihar bus stand in New Delhi, and during trial had claimed that the police had implicated him.
