PUSU campus chief arrested for creating ruckus, released

Panjab University Student Union (PUSU) campus president Gur Arinder Singh Minhas was booked for creating ruckus on campus by the Chandigarh police on Sunday evening.

Panjab University Student Union (PUSU) campus president Gur Arinder Singh Minhas was booked for creating ruckus on campus by the Chandigarh police on Sunday evening.

The incident occurred at 3pm on Sunday when Minhas, reached the PUSU tent and found his name missing from the banners.

He had a verbal duel with other leaders during which he tore-off a banner from the tent.

Minhas had turned up at the NSUI tent on Saturday and had announced that he would support the NSUI in this election.

Earlier, windshields of Minhas' car were broken by unidentified persons in Sector 14.

Many in PUSU were upset with his open display of support to NSUI which resulted in verbal duel. He was taken away by the police and later arrested for creating ruckus on campus.

Minhas was let-off late in the evening. The written complaint to the police was given by Jagdeep Mann, a student and PUSU leader.

PUSU also claimed that Minhas was accompanied by some outsiders though nobody has been named.

Parties hold show-of-strength rallies
Student organisations carried out rallies on campus in the evening to show their strength. Hundreds of students participated in the rallies that started after 5pm in various hostels. To avoid any untoward incident, the PU administration had allotted fixed hours for the candidates to carry out their rallies. The campaigning for student council elections ends on Monday morning.
