“Atleast 20 more members should have been added to the voters list this year, as 30-35 faculty members joined the university in the last one year and only a dozen retired from the services,” a PU official said.

PUTA president Devinder Singh said they were in the process of updating the voters list. “We have prepared a list of 612 members. The numbers are expected to increase. We will send out the final list on Tuesday,” he added. Singh also alleged that one of the reasons for delay was that some key members of his opponent group,
Khaled Mohammed and Akshaya Kumar group, didn’t not send their voters list on time.

On the other hand, Khaled-Akshaya group, alleged that the teachers’ association adopted a casual approach while preparing the voters list. “It was an important task, and there was no sense of urgency while carrying it out. It only goes on to show PUTA’s efficiency,” Kumar added.

Meanwhile, Khaled-Akshaya group has already declared the names of candidates. Rajat Sandhir of biochemistry has been fielded against Devinder Singh, for the post of vice president, Ram Mehar of University School of Open Learning will be the faction candidate while for the post of secretary, Amit Chauhan of University Institute of Engineering and Technology and Dr YP Sharma, also from UIET, will contest for the post of treasurer. K Tankeshwar group is likely to announce candidates for the remaining posts on Tuesday. According to sources, the group is likely to contest the same people as last year, for main executive as well as three other executives.
