Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special judge Vimal Kumar on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of the ongoing graft case against Punjab police deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Raka Ghira, after the complainant in the case expressed inability to testify before the court owing to ill health.
Complainant KK Malhotra, who has been lodged in jail owing to a fraud case registered against him, appeared before the court on Tuesday. He, however, before seeking adjournment of recording his statement reiterated his allegations against Ghira.
While recording his statement before the court, Malhotra said there were few cases registered against him with the economic offences wing, SAS Nagar. He further said following this the reader of Ghira had demanded Rs 2 lakh as illegal gratification of her behalf to help him in these cases.
After this, Malhotra complained of not feeling well and considering his plea, the court adjourned the hearing to March 27.
The CBI on July 24, 2011, had registered a case against Ghira and his reader Manmohan Singh under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Co-accused Manmohan later turned approver in the case.
CBI sleuths had arrested Ghira while allegedly accepting Rs 1-lakh bribe from Malhotra, a realtor for helping him out in the inquiry pending against him. CBI claimed that Ghira had sought bribe to facilitate a clean chit to Malhotra in the case.
