Reshuffle a cosmetic exercise: CM

Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday said the "cosmetic face-change exercise' of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government to reshuffle the cabinet would hardly be able to save the party from decimation as the countrymen were fed up with the government's anti-people policies.

Speaking at Devki Devi Jain Memorial College here, the CM said the Congress leadership's attempt to give a fresh look to the cabinet by inducting new faces would hardly make any difference. He said rather than resorting to such tactics, the Congress must enact pro-people policies which could ensure the development and progress of the country.

Badal said had the Congress-led UPA government taken solid steps to control rampant corruption by its ministers, there would have been no need for such an exercise (reshuffle).

He said the frequent hike in prices of petrol and diesel had exposed the real face of the Congress, which claimed to be the votary of the common man. The chief minister reiterated that the union government had broken the back of the common man by increasing prices of essential commodities.
