Burglars struck at the house of a former air force officer in Sector 21 and decamped with silverware and jewellery, besides several household items.

Burglars struck at the house of a former air force officer in Sector 21 and decamped with silverware and jewellery, besides several household items.

The matter came to fore when house owner, Harkamaljeet Singh Shonki Air Commodore (retd), opened his house, which was locked since April 22.

In his complaint, Shonki said, “We left after locking the house on April 22. When we returned on Sunday, we were shocked to see the house ransacked and most household items missing.”

He claimed that silver jewellery, seven-piece silver kitchen set, two geysers, three LPG cylinders, over 70 old brass utensils, 50 grocery items, an electronic mixer, mattresses and quilts, all crockery items, emergency light, radio player, cosmetic items, clothes, sewing machine, all types of stationery and two irons had been stolen.

The police have registered a case under section 380 (theft in dwelling house) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in the matter.

Meanwhile, two motor vehicle thefts were also reported from across the city. Subhash Chander of
Sirsa reported that someone stole his Bolero Jeep (HR-20P-4764) from parking of Satya Narain Mandir, Sector 22-C, Chandigarh.

In another incident, the police arrested a 20-year-old Indra Colony resident for allegedly stealing a motorcycle and a scooter. The police nabbed Sanjay from Sector 20 on Sunday after getting information that he had stolen a motorcycle from Sector-19 market. After his interrogation, the police also recovered a scooter from him.
