Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday said the state government would implement the rotational posting system for station house officers (SHOs), assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) and munshis in police stations to bring complete transparency in the functioning of the police force.
Replying to questions raised by Congress MLA Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa in the Vidhan Sabha, Sukhbir said the state government was committed to setting up a separate investigation wing in the state police.
He said SHOs and deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) would be posted for investigation at the police station and subdivision levels, adding that the separate wing would start functioning from April.
Sukhbir said it was also decided that the police officer who would register a case would not investigate it. He added that this initiative would boost the investigation process and “further provide justice to victims and sentence to culprits”.
Replying to the question of Akali MLA Prem Mittal regarding the setting up of a 66-KV substation near the grain market at Mansa, Sukhbir said the possession of land for the construction of the substation had been taken and the boundary wall had also been constructed. He added that all electrical equipment had been allotted and the substation was expected to be commissioned by September 30.
The deputy CM, while replying to the question of Akali MLA Surinder Singh Bhulewal Rathian, said the state had also proposed to construct a synthetic football ground at Mahilpur in Hoshiarpur district and a case in this regard had been sent to the Union government under the urban sports Infrastructure scheme.
