SAD councillor dies of illness at 35

After battling for life for more than a month at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, SAD councillor from ward no. 10, Malkiat Singh (35), breathed his last on Monday late evening and was cremated on Tuesday at the Sector-25 cremation grounds.

After battling for life for more than a month at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, SAD councillor from ward no. 10, Malkiat Singh (35), breathed his last on Monday late evening and was cremated on Tuesday at the Sector-25 cremation grounds.

Singh, a part of the municipal corporation’s controversial 10-day study tour to Port Blair, Chennai and Kolkata from August 31 to September 9, complained of severe abdominal pain on September 5, during a visit to the Havelock Island at Port Blair. His illness was diagnosed as a case of pancreatitis and he was shifted to the the ICU at AIIMS.

During the course of the treatment,he contracted septicemia and succumbed to the disease. Singh is survived by his mother Gian Kaur (60); wife Satnam Kaur ( 33);son Harshpreet Singh (13) and daughter Amarjot Kaur (7). Several BJP, Congress and SAD leaders attended his cremation.

HT later learnt that councillors have moved a proposal for the cancellation of a Diwali Mela scheduled to be organised at the Sector-34 grounds from October 14 in view of the death.
