In a letter to the Prime Minister, SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal urged him to direct the External Affairs Ministry to immediately take up the matter with Islamabad.

On humanitarian grounds, Sarabjit Singh should be released and sent back to India, Badal said, according to a party press release here.

The mercy petition of Sarabjit Singh, allegedly involved in four bomb blasts in Lahore and Multan in 1989 that killed 14 people, had been rejected by Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf.

Talking to reporters in Jalandhar, the SAD chief predicted snap poll in the country and said his party was fully prepared to face it.

"Due to differences among allies, the UPA government is left with no option but to go in for snap poll," Badal said.

On seat-sharing with its coalition partner BJP in Punjab, the SAD chief said the issue would be sorted out amicably at appropriate time.
