SAS Nagar all geared up for panchayat polls on Jul 3

As many as 3,355 candidates are in fray for 356 posts of sarpanch and 2,124 posts of panchs in the upcoming panchayat elections scheduled for July 3. From the district, 44 candidates have been elected unopposed for the post of sarpanch and 977 candidates unopposed for the post of panch.

In Kharar block, 16 candidates for sarpanch and 377 candidates for panch have been elected unopposed.

In Majri Block, 20 candidates for sarpanch and 329 candidates for panch have been elected unopposed.

In Derabassi block, 8 candidates for sarpanch and 271 candidates for panch have been elected unopposed.

The election expenditure for a sarpanch is set at Rs 23,500 and for a panch is fixed at Rs 16,000.

Speaking to HT, deputy commissioner Tejinderpal Singh Sidhu, said, “All arrangements have been made for the polling day and we have declared 92 polling booths as sensitive and 37 as supersensitive. As many as 844 candidates are contesting for the post of sarpanch and 2,511 aspired for a seat of panch. We are sending the elections materials to pooling booths on Tuesday.”
