The suspect has been identified as Amir Khan. In his complaint, Hardeep Singh said that a motorcycle-borne youngster came up from behind him to snatch away his mobile phone while he was talking over it.

The victim had allegedly also told the police that he had failed to note down the registration number of the vehicle and the accused was wearing a helmet.

A case has been registered under sections 356 (assault or criminal force in attempt to commit theft of property carried by a person) and 379 (punishment for theft) of the Indian Penal Code.

Khan was produced before the magistrate's court and was later remanded to police custody.
