SC decision: Meritorious students going for private medical colleges

With Supreme Court setting aside the AIPMT has created panic among the meritorious students of the region. The students will be left with no option but to go for Punjab medical counselling or secure their seats in the private medical colleges, the counselling of which will take place before the all India counselling.

With Supreme Court setting aside the AIPMT has created panic among the meritorious students of the region. The students will be left with no option but to go for Punjab medical counselling or secure their seats in the private medical colleges, the counselling of which will take place before the all India counselling.

In the region only Punjab has conducted its own examination and the admission counselling is scheduled for June 25th. “The fallout of the judgment will be that now meritorious students who can easily get admissions in top medical colleges of the country like Maulana Azad Medical College or GMCH-32 will got for admissions in state medical colleges. Or some students who are on borderline will go for admission private medical colleges . It will lead to huge botheration for parents and candidates as they will lose part of fee and will have to travel to faraway places,” said Dr Arvind Goyal, a Chandigarh based PMT trainer.

He also said that the health ministry should issue guidelines to various private medical colleges to hold the counselling only after the declaration of AIPMT result.


* Punjab: Conducts its own entrance examination but around 100 seats (15%) are fills through AIPMT

* Chandigarh: All 100 seats at GMCH-32 fills through AIPMT

* Haryana: fills Haryana around 500 seats through AIPMT

* Himachal Pradesh: All 100 seats fills through AIPMT
