A reporter with a vernacular daily was allegedly assaulted by a commando on duty in Sector 17, when the journalist visited the spot to do a follow-up story of the fire mishap at National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) on Sunday evening.

The journalist, Avinash, alleged that constable Deepak, who is posted with the Operation Cell, assaulted him with the butt of his gun and bashed him with kicks and bows.
Instead of acting against the police, the journalist was booked for obstructing government servant from performing duty and causing hurt under sections 353 and 323 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
He claimed that he submitted a complaint with the police, but they booked him instead and registered a case at the Sector 17 police station.
