The biggest-ever operations launched to trace the bodies of missing students failed to get any success in fishing out more bodies, even as the kin of missing students grew restless - as they have lost hope of any miracle.
The navy team on Friday had pressed into service the unmanned aerial vehicle to locate the bodies along the stretch between the place of incident and Pandoh dam.
The unmanned aerial vehicle could not operate fully due to delinking with the satellites. The operations on the fifth day began with the dawn and continued till the dusk.
The divers and contingents from ar my, state police, navy, National Disaster Response Force and SSB are participating in the operation. “Muddy water and strong current was making it difficult for the divers to the trace the bodies.
There are some areas where the river is not fully exposed to the sunlight and it hampers the visibility in muddy water,” said commandant NDRF Jaideep Singh. Rescuers anticipate that the bodies could have been submerged in deep waters due to heavy silt in the dam.
There are about six hundreds personnel from various agencies participating in the search operations that continued for the fifth day after the tragedy in which 25 students, including the tour instructors were swept away. Rural development minister Anil Sharma reached Pandoh to oversee the search operations. “Special search operations will be carried out to trace the missing students three kilometres downstream the site of the tragedy,” said Anil Sharma, adding that of out of 600 jawans, about 450 of them and divers would undertake this special search operation in the 3-km stretch.
