According to family members, Deepak Kumar left India nearly six months ago to take up a plumber's job in Iraq, which was secured for him by a recruitment agency.

When his parents contacted him, he said that he had been desperately looking for an opportunity to move out of Iraq, but was unable to do so due to security restrictions in the country.

His parents said they had contacted the state Government and had informed about his whereabouts. They added that they had urged the government to take steps to ensure his safe return to India.

Deputy commissioner NK Solanki, however, said that no one had approached him regarding this issue, adding that his administration was ready to help the family.
