Senior BJP leader and Kangra MP Shanta Kumar has welcomed the approval for four laning of the 220 km Pathankot-Mandi National Highway (NH) 20 and expressed his gratitude to minister of road transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari.

Kumar had raised the matter of the dismal state of NH-20 with the union road transport minister in a meeting attended by MPs from Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir.
The senior BJP leader had said the road, which is a strategically important link to the areas bordering China, was in a pathetic condition and needed immediate attention. The road was also used to transport arsenal and army personnel during the Kargil war.
The Kangra MP has now called a meeting of the national highway officials on August 1 to discuss further plans.
