Shashikant enters quarterfinals

Shashikant Rajput, who is enrolled under Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association’s (CLTA) rural tennis development programme CHART, upset eighth seed Rohit Kumar in straight sets to book his berth in the boys’ singles quarterfinals of the under-16 AITA Championship Series tennis tournament, being played at the CLTA complex in Sector 10, on Tuesday.

Using the shot variations to good effect, Rajput claimed the first set 6-4, and then went a step further to win the second set 6-2. In other matches of the section, Kabir Manrai defeated Aditya Pratap Singh 6-2, 6-0, while Gurjot Singh got the better of Shivam Vij 6-1, 6-1.

CLTA trainee Rishabh Sharda also secured the quarterfinal berth by beating Ishan Sethi 6-0, 6-2.
Also, Sabrang Sandal defeated Naresh Badgujar 6-3, 6-0, and Calvin Golmei ousted Rahul Verma 6-0, 6-3.
Meanwhile, Ramanjot Dhindsa had to fight hard to down Sohraab Singh 5-7, 6-2, 6-4. Aditya Vashisht completed the quarterfinal line-up with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Neeraj Yashpaul.
