The royal splendor of Moghal empire, saga of secular thoughts, ethical values , spirit of “vedic granths”, humanism upheld by Moghal prince Dara Shikoh, the historical betrayal, and intrigue by his brother princes, was brought alive in a theatrical spectacle ‘Dara Shikoh’ at the Tagore Theatre here on Friday.
The play in chaste Urdu, with felicitous use of Urdu poetry, dialogues and phrases, was brought for the city art lovers by the Chandig arh Sangeet Natak Academy in collaboration with Impresario Asia Limited drama ensemble of Delhi.
A symbolical stage set perfectly reflected the ambience of powerful royal ruler prince Dara Shikoh, eldest son of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan.
Shikoh was a visionary philosopher and well-read liberal scholar of Sufism, Hinduism, Mughal philosophy. Written by Danish Iqbal, the play was directed by MS Sathyu.
A proponent of truth and secular gover nment, Dara Shikoh became the victim of a conspiracy and war initiated by his real brothers.
However, this 17th century Mughal prince was executed after losing the war of succession among Emperor Shah Jahan’s sons, his legacy lives till today in invincibility.
