Human resource development (HRD) minister Smriti Irani on Saturday exhorted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers to provide financial assistance to the victims of the recent Jammu and Kashmir floods.

Addressing party workers at the Chandigarh BJP office in Sector 33, Irani said she had donated her one month salary to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund to help the affected families.

She said funds should not be collected from the aam aadmi alone and party workers should also come forward and donate money from their own pockets.

Irani thanked the workers for the party's win in the recent Lok Sabha elections. She said it had become possible due to the efforts of the party workers.

The minister also said local MP Kirron Kher had been taking up matters related to the city with the Centre.

"Hardly any day passes, when there is no delegation or representation from the city MP," she said.
She assured that matters related to the city would be dealt on a priority basis.

In her address, Kirron Kher said whenever she went with a delegation to meet Irani, she tried to resolve the matter on a priority basis.
