The group claimed that SOPU president Amninder Mann had been shunted out of the party for his ‘non-performance’.

On the other hand, Mann claimed that the group was supported by Student Organisation of India (SOI) and had been running the campaign against him and party to confuse the students.

Announcing its panel at the Student’s Centre, the group named Sewa Singh Judge its president, Prabhjit Karmuwalia campus president and Rupinder Sharma chairman.

Other office-bearers named include party president Dharminder Middukhera, party incharge Raman Sidhu, vice-president Tarun Pilot, whose name was announced by Mann on Tuesday as SOPU vice-president, and Harjinder Khosa as general secretary.

The group, along with a large number of outsiders, went around the Student Centre and the cafeteria raising slogans in favour of Lawrence Bishnoi, a SOPU leader with criminal past

Sources said some key SOI faces, including Vicky Middukhera, Robin Brar and Rashpal Haquwala, had been behind the split in SOPU.
