The auction was necessitated following the cancellation of 122 telecom licences by the Supreme Court.

On the first day of auction on Monday, the government received bids worth about 9,280 crore rupees at the end of five rounds.

Telecom secretary R Chandrashekhar said on Monday, out of 176 blocks that were put on auction, bids were received only for 98.

Two key circles-Delhi and Mumbai-did not receive any bid on the first day.

No player has applied for a pan-India licence.
