Appreciating the services of the old saints of the Nanaksar Thaath sect, Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, who was visiting Gurdwara Nanaksar Thaath at Samadh Bhai village in Moga district on Sunday, said the spiritual leaders could play a leading role in curbing the menace of drugs and other social evils by spreading awareness.
"It is the need of the hour that the 'Sant Samaj' and spiritual leaders make efforts to preach the tenets of Sikhism, which could play a pivotal role in curbing social evils," he said.
The CM had earlier met MPs, MLAs, former MLAs, zila parishad members and other public representatives of Moga, Faridkot and Ferozepur districts at the district administrative complex regarding a state-level function to lay down the foundation stone of the civil works of a historical monument-cum-temple, with a museum, at Sri Valmiki Ashram (Ram Tirath) near Amritsar, on the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti on October 18.
Badal said it was a matter of great pride for the state government to offer tributes to Valmiki by developing the site where the 'maharishi' had propagated the concept of a democratic society by composing the legendary epic 'Ramayana'.
He added that the state government was committed to perpetuating the rich legacy of the great gurus, saints, seers and prophets. "In this context, the state government erected the state-of-art Virasat-e-Khalsa memorial at Sri Anandpur Sahib, memorials at Kup Rahiran and Kahnuwan, and the Banda Singh Bahadur war memorial at Chappar Chiri, among others," he claimed.
