After a long stint of 32 years in the banking industry, the special assistant at State Bank of India, Sector 17, Pardeep Verma, exhibited 56 of his acrylic paintings at Punjab Kala Bhawan, Sector 16, on Wednesday.
Pardeep says it took him four years to prepare the collection for his first-ever solo show. “Painting was my childhood passion, but as it was an expensive hobby, I had to discontinue it. A few years ago I met artist JR Yadava (my guru), who exchanged a few trade secrets with me,” he says.
“Neither did I receive any formal training, nor have I been a student of fine arts. It’s just my imagination that I have tried to put on canvas,” says the 51-year-old, who had also participated at Chandigarh and Punjab Lalit Kala Academy in the past.
At the first look, Pardeep’s paintings will put you in a dilemma — it’s difficult to pin point his theme or genre of work.
The painting, however, would seem like an edited 3D image. When asked to explain the same, Pardeep says, “My brush strokes are unexplainable; they are just pure abstracts. And it’s not just the brush strokes alone.I have inculcated textures with certain equipments too.”

{{/usCountry}}As of now, Pardeep has no plans to sell his paintings. “The only aim behind presenting my art work is to get some attention and to let people get out of their busy and strenuous lives and take notice,” he concludes.
The exhibition is on till August 24.
