Watch out for the police before indulging in hooliganism on Valentine's Day as the Chandigarh Police will deploy nearly 772 cops across the city for keeping a close watch on unruly elements on the day. The 'geri route' and the educational institutions will see the maximum concentration of cops.
The 'geri route', from Sectors 9, 10 and 11, will be a limited vehicle zone throughout the day. Police sources said boys zipping on bikes or cars and honking around on the roads aimlessly would be checked. Women cops have also been deployed around markets and educational institutes to help girls.
The police have made elaborate arrangements to check any kind of nuisance in public places. Stalking girls, passing lewd remarks and harassing them would be taken extremely seriously. The cops will also keep an eye on traffic violations by the youth. Youngsters have been advised not to violate traffic rules while enjoying the day. Drink-driving, driving without helmets, tripling on two-wheelers, the use of hooters and rash driving will invite punishments and challans.
The UT inspector general of police RP Upadhyaya said the youth should enjoy the day without violating rules. Youngsters should also restrain from indulging in unlawful activities, he added.
