Though the protagonist has not been finalised yet, the film will probably have Sonakshi Sinha, who will play Sarabjit's sister, Dalbir Kaur.

The death row convict, who was a native of Punjab, died in a prison in Lahore this year after an attack by fellow inmates. His sister had waged a long battle to bring him home but could not succeed.

"It's a sensitive story and we feel it needs to be told. We have spoken to his family and they are quite okay with it... they have given their approval for the project," Ghai said.

On Sonakshi featuring in the film, Ghai neither confirmed nor denied the news. "We are yet to cast the actors. We are in process of casting and will let you all know soon," he said.
The film is likely to go on the floors early next year.

"We are quite excited about this Punjabi film. It will have Dharmendra in a double role. It will also have singer-actor Gippy Grewal, Poonam Dhillon, Minnisha Lamba and others," he said.
