Haryana minister and Congress candidate from Kaithal Randeep Singh Surjewala said here on Thursday that assailants pelted stones at Sharma' family members and his house. The police was summoned to rescue Sharma and his family.

The sarpanch claimed that BJP workers attacked him and his family for not voting for the BJP in Wednesday’s assembly elections.

The Congress leader claimed that BJP workers also threatened to kidnap two Dalits in Keorak Basti — Rakesh Kumar and Lakshmi Valmiki —for having voted in favour of the Congress.

Sujrewala said a complaint had been lodged with the district police.

BJP supporters also barged into the ITI polling station on Wednesday, threatened the staff and shouted slogans in support of the BJP, he said.

Pointing out that cameras in the booth had captured the incident, Sujrewala said, “We have asked the EC to act against them (the assailants) for obstructing a government servant from doing his duty, and violating the Representation of People Act.”

Sujrewala also remarked that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Haryana BJP unit president Ram Bilas Sharma should intitiate action against their party workers who had indulged in “goondagardi”, if they really respected the law.
