The Swift Dzire snatched from the owners of a jewellery shop in Sector-5 Mansa Devi Complex (MDC) on Sunday was found abandoned at Zirakpur on Monday. On Sunday, in a broad daylight robbery, Rs.50 lakh was looted from Rajat Jewellers.
Police now claim that the Swift car and the car in which the robbers had arrived at the crime scene were shown as having travelled towards Singh Dwar. This was documented from the CCTV footage of the MDC petrol pumps opposite Rajat Jewellers.
“We have got some clues. We are trying to connect the dots. The swift car has been recovered. The Cruze car used in the crime was snatched from Nawashahar. We have been looking at other crime incidents where pepper spray was used,” said Panchkula DCP Rahul Sharma.
‘ACCUSED WERE SPEAKING IN PUNJABI’
Ansh Khanna, the victim of dacoity, has reported to the police that the accused were speaking in Punjabi. “They abused me in Punjabi,” he said.
“I tried to break the main window glass by throwing an object but in vain. I thought that people outside the shop would be alerted. After this, one of them attacked me with a sickle on head and face. They asked me to remove my wrist watch, and hand over the car keys and cash in my pocket.”
In a related development, Chandigarh police sources told HT that they suspect that the gang involved in Sunday’s robbery could be the same as the one involved in the June 27 robbery of Rs.5 lakh from a nationalised bank at Khuda Ali Sher.
Another similar case remains unsolved. On December 9, 2013, when the second higest dacoity in terms of looted wealth in Panchkula district was reported four men with three of them dressed in Punjab Police uniform, looted ? 1.68 crore from a cash van of Cash Management Services (CMS) company by using pepper spray on the Pinjore-Siswan road.
