A cricket coach, who was allegedly caught red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 by the Haryana vigilance bureau last year, committed suicide on Friday morning.
Coach RP Chopra was alone at his house in Sector 21 here when he hung himself from a rope tied to the fanlight in his room. When his wife Aruna returned home from her work in the afternoon, she found him hanging.
The police was informed. Sector-5 police station SHO Naveen Sandhu visited the spot along with his team. No suicide note was recovered from the spot.
Chopra is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. His son studies in Noida while his daughter had gone to her college when he committed suicide.
Relatives said the possible reason for committing suicide was the vigilance case and suspension from his job. He was under depression, a relative said.
“After the post-mortem the body will be handed over to the family members,” Sandhu said.
How Chopra fell in vigilance net
The vigilance bureau had laid a trap after Krishan Kumar, a resident of Jind, complained that Chopra demanded Rs 10,000 for the training, whereas the fee was Rs 2,400 per annum.
On June 22, 2012, when Kumar handed over currency laced with phenolphthalein powder (a reddening substance) to Chopra at the gates of the Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Sector 3, a team of the bureau arrested Chopra red-handed.

{{/usCountry}}During the proceedings, Vikram Chaudhary, a resident of Naraingarh, submitted an affidavit in the court on June 25, 2012, regarding payment of Rs 2.5 lakh to Chopra as bribe to play for Haryana Bulls in Premier Cricket League (PCL) in 2010. He was facing a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act, sections 409 (for criminal breach of trust) and 420 (for cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
