Taking a detour

Amit Kumar, Hindi playback singer and son of legendary actor-singer Kishore Kumar, was in Chandigarh on Saturday to attend a musical evening to commemorate legends of the Hindi film music industry including Mohammad Rafi, Mukesh and Kishore Kumar.

Amit Kumar, Hindi playback singer and son of legendary actor-singer Kishore Kumar, was in Chandigarh on Saturday to attend a musical evening to commemorate legends of the Hindi film music industry including Mohammad Rafi, Mukesh and Kishore Kumar. Amit told us that he had started an online music company in an attempt to revive what he believes is Bollywood’s lost lyrical beauty. Called KBM (Kumar Brothers Music), it is a venture that Amit has started in association with his brother Sumit Kumar.

"I am going to be releasing 10 songs. In fact, my nine-year-old daughter Muktika will also do a song or two, being in the fourth generation of singers of the family. But, that’s only if she wants to," he smiles fondly, adding, "I’ll invite other artistes if we succeed. And, unlike the Hindi film music industry, my company will have complete transparency."

Believing that one has to constantly keep moving with the times, the singer muses, “You can’t depend on films alone to feed you for the rest of your life!” and signs off.
