Senior police officials associated with the antidrug drive point out that the biggest challenge remains the rehabilitation of the addicts. So far in the past fortnight the strategy of the police has been to “dry the drugs supply line” by smashing the retail distribution network.

“But this fight against the prevalence of drugs will not achieve the desired objectives if it is left to the police alone. The challenge before the police as well as public is to block the drug supply and dry the demand by foolproof de-addiction,” said a top police official.

Among those nabbed so far, police say, are also the “compulsive peddlers” who are hooked to the drugs. In other words, the “compulsive peddlers” are those who sell drugs to make money for buying the drugs for personal consumption.

The focus is not only on breaking the chain of retail network, but the police are keeping a close watch on those who are out on bail and facing cases under the NDPS.
