Councillor from ward number 16, Mamta Mittal, a resident of house number 773, was one of the victims where the thieves whisked away an LCD, two gold bangles and a gold chain. The thieves then targeted house number 1037, where Colonel Harpreet Singh (retd) lives. An LCD was stolen from here, even as Singh's wife slept peacefully on the first floor.

Then, three more houses --- numbers 1031, 1045 and 1046 --- were targeted, but nothing could be taken as thieves panicked.

At Mittal's house, the thieves broke the grill to gain entry. Her father-in-law Pawan Mittal said: "I was the first person to notice the theft. I had heard a noise at night, but attributed it to bad weather or a cat."

"An FIR has been registered for trespass and theft," said inspector Malkiat Singh, SHO of sector 5 police station.

FOUR HOUSES TARGETED IN SEC-6

Four houses in Sector 6 were also targeted and LCD and other valuables were stolen. One of the houses is owned by Justice Amarjeet Chaudhary, who is a retiree from the Punjab and Haryana high court.?
