SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the CIA staff and SHO inspector Vijay Kumar in a joint operation busted the gang of vehicle-lifters. The CIA staff recovered three cars, a motorcycle and jewellery from them.

They have been identified as Lakhwinder Singh, 31, resident of Jind in Haryana; Baljit Singh, 23, and Sunil Kumar, 20. Anil Kumar, the mastermind behind forging documents and chassis numbers, is at large.

Bhullar said that in a tip-off, the CIA staff learnt that Lakhwinder was present near the bus stand of Sahoran village in the district and was about to strike a deal. The teams raided the place and arrested Lakhwinder along with a stolen Tata Indigo car.

During his interrogation he confessed to having stolen cars along with Anil and selling them off after tampering with their chassis and engine numbers along with the registration cards.

All the three have previous criminal record and have been booked by various police stations for cases of theft and robbery.

Lakhwinder and Anil have been booked by Jind police on charges of vehicle thefts. Baljit and Sunil have been booked at Ambala, Panchkula and Ropar and have been undergoing hearings in various courts.
