Three-day training for social survey begins

A three-day regional training conference on the 72nd round of the socio-economic survey to be undertaken by the field operations division, National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), under the ministry of statistics and programme implementation began here on Monday.

A three-day regional training conference on the 72nd round of the socio-economic survey to be undertaken by the field operations division, National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), under the ministry of statistics and programme implementation began here on Monday.

The objective of the conference is to impart training to its field staff in the Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab (south) regions. The field work of the survey will start from July 1, 2014 and end on June 30, 2015.

The 72nd round is earmarked for survey on domestic tourism expenditure, household consumption of services and durable goods and consumer expenditure. Around 150 participants from sub-re gional offices of NSSO in Haryana and Punjab are participating in the conference.

Besides this , many senior officials of the economic and statistical analysis department, Haryana and Punjab, will also take part in the conference where various concepts, definitions and procedural aspects of the survey will be discussed.

Harbinder Singh, deputy director general, Chandigarh, inaugurated the conference. In his inaugural address, Singh emphasised the need for collecting reliable and accurate data.

He said the reliable data collected by the field staff would help in development planning and policy formulation.
