Sports are treated like a religion in St John’s High School, which has been ranked as the best school in the town on the parameter of sports.

The school has scored 89 out of 100 points and was ranked first last year as well. Kavita Das, principal of St John’s High School, says her students are passionate about sports.

“We have a good brigade of coaches across disciplines. Popular sports like horse riding, polo, kabaddi, lawn tennis, archery, badminton and football are taught at the school. We have the best infrastructure for sports among the city’s schools. All because we want our boys to excel in sports.”

Harjit Likhari, coordinator of the senior wing at St John’s, adds, “We have produced many national and international players. Students get the chance to explore their real talent. No one can beat us in the terms of sports facilities.”

Vivek High School, which was ranked third last year, has clinched the second spot (84 points) this year. The school provides equal importance to sports and academics.

She adds, “We encourage our students to actively participate in sports tournaments as we want to ensure their overall development.”
